On Saturday 5th May 07 Aztec entered her first official show.
It was a very exciting day not just for us but for Judy, Bob and all
those involved in getting this beautiful breed recognised. Many thanks
goes to them for all their hard work over the many years it has taken
to get this far with the breed.
We progressed through the rings with Aztec receiving firsts and gaining points.
With the last final of the day, her number came up and we knew we had a top 10. As the judge began his placing starting at 10th, we realistically thought a 7th or 8th place for the new breed as an achievement. When he picked up the 4th place rosette and then walked over to the cages with Aztec and a Maine Coon side by side, he deliberated what seemed eternity, finally awarding Aztec 4th place. Maine Coon took third, a lovely glittered Bengal took second and Abyssinian took first. Mike and I looked at each other and felt proud of her achievement in her first official show.
We then realised that Aztec had accumulated enough points to earn Championship status. We did not realise it at the time but she is the first to attain this outside of the USA and we feel very privileged.
